Why One Councilman Wants to Keep Saggy Pants Ban on Books

A vote is set for this week on a repeal of the saggy pants ordinance in Shreveport.

Councilwoman LeVette Fuller wants to get the ordinance banned saying government should not be telling people how to dress.

But Councilman James Flurry is opposed to the measure. He wants to keep the ban on the books. He says that's what he's hearing from his constituents.

Since the saggy pants ordinance was put in place in 2007,  More than 700 people have been cited.  Of those people, 98 percent of them were black, according to city data.  When it came to juveniles cited under the law, 100 percent were black, Fuller said.
