A midday Mass with a priest from Haiti and the screening of a documentary are among the activities scheduled as Xavier University of Louisiana marks the first anniversary of the Haiti earthquake.

After Wednesday's Mass with Fr. Jean Moran, there will be a moment of silence at 3:53 p.m., the moment the earthquake happened on Jan. 12 of last year.

A discussion session at 4 p.m. will include a message of thanks from Saints football player and Haiti native Jonathan Vilma.

In the evening, a documentary on the hardships faced by descendants of slaves brought to the island of Hispaniola for sugar production will be screened.
