You Can Have One Last Meal at Tujague’s Before They Move

Tujague's Restaurant in New Orleans has been a staple in the French Quarter at 823 Decatur St. for almost 160 years. The second oldest restaurant in the city has been open since 1856, and was originally located at 811 Decatur, but was moved in 1914 to it's present location.

Now, Tujague's will be moving again, but just down the street to 429 Decatur, the former location of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, which closed last year. The only other restaurant in New Orleans that is older than Tujague's is the world famous Antoine's, which has been serving customers since 1840.

According to owner Mark Latter, the change is set for September. The new building dates back to the 1840's, but it is still going to be bittersweet for families who have spent holidays and special occasions at the restaurant, which prides itself on classic creole cuisine. My family has a special place in our hearts for Tujague's, because that's where our grandparents ate on their honeymoon, almost 100 years ago.

So, if you are feeling sentimental, Tujaques will be holding a farewell dinner series to give customers one last chance to eat at the historic location before the big move. As of right now, the dates are June 26 and 27, but more have just been added. And you'll need to make a reservation soon.

The farewell dinners will be something really special. Five course meals from a set menu, which has long been a Tujagues tradition. And new items will be mixed in with classic favorites from chef Tom Robey. Of course, their signature boiled brisket dish will be served, and you can catch a glimpse of the whole farewell menu here.
