Harahan Mom Booked With Child Desertion
HARAHAN, La. (AP) — A Harahan mother was booked with child desertion after police found her 8-year-old son alone and babysitting his 11-month-old brother.
Harahan police officers say they were at 23-year-old Kaleysha Berniard’s apartment with the children for more than hour before she returned home.
Police tell The Times-Picayune the children were turned over to the custody of a relative.
Berniard was booked Wednesday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center with child desertion.
It was unclear whether Berniard has an attorney.
