GRETNA, La. (AP) — The Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office says a man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting to the rape of a pregnant Kenner woman in her home.

Twenty-six-year-old Brandon Watkins is a former Kenner resident who was living in Independence when he was arrested. The district attorney's news release Friday said he pleaded guilty last year to forcible rape and residential burglary.

Prosecutors said Watkins admitted he had repeatedly broken into the victim's apartment over the course of a month in late 2013. The woman told authorities she had noticed items moved in the apartment during the period but assumed her son was responsible.

On the final break-in in December 2013, Watkins raped the woman. He was later linked to the crime by DNA evidence.
