The Husser Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 6:30 this morning to a rural road after receiving a report by a passerby that a home was burned to the ground.

When firefighters arrived they discovered that a single family home had burned over night and nearly all the structural components had been destroyed. The home is located in a rural area that is not heavily traveled. It is believed that the fire started after midnight. After searching in the debris, firefighters located the body of one person in the charred remains of the building.

State Fire Marshal Deputies were dispatched to investigate the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings indicate that space heaters were being used to heat the home and could have contributed to the cause of this fire. Additional inspections will be conducted in the days to come. The name of the man who died in this fire is being withheld pending notification of the family; there were no working smoke alarms in the home.
