Arrest Made after Wild Shooting Incident on Thruway in Lafayette
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Officials with the Lafayette Police Department have announced the arrest of a man for allegedly shooting at another vehicle as both cars were driving down the Evangeline Thruway Thursday just after 12 a.m.
According to the Spokeswoman for the department, Sergeant Robin Green, the victim says he and his friend were in their vehicle stopped on the Thruway at its intersection with East Willow when another vehicle drove up next to them.
The victim says the suspect told him he was following him and he produced a handgun which he pointed at them, so the victim got scared and fled the scene.
As far as a motive, and what started this situation, we do not know. We do know the people in each car did not know each other.
The victim says as they drove off the suspect started chasing them and firing shots at their car. Two bullets hit the car.
Lafayette Police officers later tracked down the suspect's vehicle in the 200 block of Brenda Street, and the suspect was sitting in the driver's seat. They found two guns and meth.
Green says they arrested 40-year-old Vincent Jones on the following charges:
- Two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder
- Two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
- One Count of Possession of a Fireman with an Obliterated Serial Number
- One Count of Possession of a Firearm in the presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
- One Count of Possession of Schedule II Narcotics
