ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta-area residents say they're not going to be stranded in their cars on the highway when a winter storm is expected to hit today.

Many people say they're staying home, despite word from officials that salt trucks and snow plows are ready to handle what comes.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal already has declared a state of emergency and schools have canceled classes.

Deal says, "We are certainly ahead of the game this time." Longtime resident Terri Herod says, "I'm not counting on it."
