BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) — The Bossier City fire chief is retiring at the end of the month to become the parish's homeland security director.

Sammy Halphen announced the switch Tuesday. He's been fire chief since 2004 and has been with the Bossier City Fire Department for 25 years.

As homeland security director, Halphen replaces Bossier City Marshal Johnny Wyatt, who recently died. Mayor Lorenzo Walker said a search for a replacement is under way.

In the meantime Deputy Chief George Brice will act as interim fire chief.
