Officials in Bossier Parish want to jump online with a state emergency radio system that will allow their departments to talk seamlessly with each other and outside agencies in emergency situations.

Sandy Davis, director of the Caddo-Bossier Office of Homeland Security, tells The Times the communication system, known as Louisiana Wireless Information Network, allows Louisiana first responders to communicate on a 700 megahertz system dedicated to emergency communications.

Sammy Halphen, director of homeland security in Bossier Parish says to utilize the system, Bossier Parish must invest in 700 megahertz-capable radios, a purchase he anticipates will be quite expensive.

He hopes to find grant money to cover the cost of the radios and anticipates having a total estimate within the next month.
