Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were probably the best known recent transplant to New Orleans area before selling their French quarter home last year. Reports out today say the couple of 12 years has filed for divorce.

The a-listers do leave a lasting impact on the Crescent city- in part due to building projects which reshaped some heavily damaged areas. As part of the Make It Right foundation, Brad Pitt helped support the construction of 109 green houses to replace houses that were damaged in Hurricane Katrina.

Pitt and Jolie enjoyed quite a bit of privacy in the French Quarter as local as living nearby refused to tell sightseers for many years exactly where the house was on Governor Nicholls Street. The house sits near the French market and was listed last year for more than $6 million. The house is off the market at this time.

According to the organization's website, it began in New Orleans building "safe sustainable" homes in the Lower 9th Ward. They have gone on to build housing in Newark, New Jersey, Kansas City, Missouri, and on Native American tribal land.

Their impact of their celebrity may one day fade, but for 109 families in the New Orleans area, their impact will be felt for a lifetime.
