The once-popular Celebrity Theater in Broussard is coming down. Billeaud Companies has announced that demolition of the long-vacant building will begin in the coming weeks, making way for a fresh redevelopment plan at this prime location along U.S. Hwy. 90/I-49 Lafayette Connector.

After considering various proposals to repurpose the existing structure, Billeaud Companies ultimately concluded that the building’s construction and size made adaptive reuse too costly. The company decided that clearing the site would allow for more flexibility in planning a modern development that would better accommodate the area's rapid growth.

Situated just miles from a new major interstate exit and surrounded by Billeaud’s other key properties, the 8-acre site is set to attract local, regional, and national brands. Early plans indicate the space will be designed to accommodate a mix of restaurants, retail, multi-use businesses, and fast-food operations, capitalizing on Main Street’s upcoming “Envision Broussard” improvements, which aims to enhance streetscapes and walkability.

“With the building gone, this will open up site planning ideas and give a fresh visualization of what this property can become,” said Billeaud Companies Board Chairman Paul Eason.

This "high-visibility site" is expected to play a key role in Broussard’s continued expansion. The city is looking to continue growing in terms of infrastructure and business—both national and local.

Be on the lookout as the theater comes down in the near future and stay tuned as what's next for the area starts to take shape.
