Charges Declined Against Lafayette School Board Candidate
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The District Attorney's Office in Lafayette plans no criminal charges filed against a former school board candidate accused by her opponent of filing a phony address.
Erica Williams had run unsuccessfully against incumbent Tehmi Chassion in November 2014. Nearly a year later, Chassion filed a criminal complaint saying Williams had registered as a candidate using an address at which she did not live.
KATC-TV reported Monday that the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office declined charges.
Williams issued a prepared statement saying there had been an attempt to "slander" her — but adding that she would continue to work with Chassion and others on behalf of Lafayette students.
