DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — Local police officials are presenting a different version of Ukrainian claims that an occupied public building has been cleared of pro-Russian protesters.

Police say protesters called them after about 30 masked men stormed the building today and started beating the protesters.

Police say they are negotiating with remaining protesters in the building.

President Barack Obama says new sanctions targeting Russia are "teed up."

But he says the United States needs support from allies to make the sanctions work and he says he's working to build such backing.

Obama, who's in Tokyo, says Russia has not abided by the spirit of an agreement reached last week that aims to ease tensions in eastern Ukraine.
