Lafayette City-Parish Council is currently considering a proposal that would remove a longstanding tax rebate for retailers in the city-parish. The rebate, established in the 1960s, allows businesses to recoup 2-percent of sales taxes paid to Lafayette City-Parish. The rebate helps businesses cover administrative costs.

The council voted 6-3 Tuesday to move the proposal forward and is scheduled for final vote on December 17.
