Downtown Lafayette Parking Changes Now on Hold
Changes to the Downtown Lafayette parking meter fees, as well as 24/7 monitoring was set to go into effect January 19. Mayor-President Josh Guillory now says those changes are on hold.
Josh Guillory says he made the decision to pause the parking changes after hearing Downtown stakeholder's concerns over the doubling of parking meter fees and 24/7 monitoring.
LCG Chief Communications Officer Jamie Angelle says the meter increase and other changes will likely "be revisited in the future".
What those changes may eventually be are as of now uncertain.
As previously reported, the Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited are co-hosting a public forum to discuss the parking changes. The public forum is set to take place Wednesday, February 3 at 8am.
According to KATC the forum "will be held virtually and in person, with a maximum of 50 in-person attendees to comply with COVID-19 event guidelines."
The in person forum will take place at the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA) James Devin Moncus Theater, or you can attend virtually via Downtown Lafayette Facebook Live Stream.
The in person forum is limited and you must register in advance HERE.
The DDA says that they "will be sure to distribute additional information to both in-person and virtual attendees prior to event day. Should you have any questions or about this event in the meantime, please contact our team via email at info@downtownlafayette.org or by phone at 337-291-5566."
DDA's Executive Director, Anita Begnuad is strongly encouraging the public's participation in the February 3 public forum, saying in a statement that "it’s important now more than ever to open up a dialogue and ensure that stakeholders most impacted by changes to parking have a chance to share their insights, concerns, and ideas for how to make parking more user-friendly and business-friendly."
