– Acadiana Senator Nick Gautreaux has been selected to serve as the Commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles by Governor Bobby Jindal, according to Colonel Michael Edmonson, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Public Safety.

His appointment is effective Monday, December 27th.

 

“I am pleased to have Senator Gautreaux join the Department of Public Safety family as the new OMV Commissioner.,” said Colonel Edmonson. “Gautreaux brings years of experience in managing private businesses and serving in state government. I am fully confident in his ability to continue the positive changes we have implemented over the past couple of years in that Office.”

Governor Jindal said, "In the last few years, the Office of Motor Vehicles has made great strides in improving customer service as well as security and technology so we can prevent fraud. I know that with Nick’s experience as a businessman and public servant that he will continue to help move the Office of Motor Vehicles forward."

Born in Abbeville, Nick Gautreaux is a lifelong resident of Acadiana, having lived in Vermilion parish for over 30 years. Gautreaux is a small business owner with experience in retail, real estate, finance and oil and gas. Gautreaux is a graduate of North Vermilion High School and has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisiana - Lafayette.  He was elected to the Louisiana State Senate in 2008, representing District 26.

In addition to his recent service on several State Senate Committees, Gautreaux has served on the NCSL Communications Committee, Technology and Interstate Commerce Committee, Health Committee, and Legislative Effectiveness and State Government Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures.

“First and foremost, I want to thank my constituents for allowing me to represent them. I will always value their trust and I wish them farewell," said Sen. Gautreaux. "I also want to thank Governor Jindal and Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson for entrusting me with this new opportunity. I look forward to working with them, and continuing to work closely with the legislature, to move our state forward.”
