BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. John Bel Edwards and his family hope to be back in the Louisiana Governor's Mansion by the end of November, months after the devastating mid-August flooding displaced them.

Edwards and his family were forced to leave the mansion when chest-high water filled the basement and electricity was shut off. They're staying in a state police facility in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The governor's spokesman Richard Carbo says estimates are that the flooding caused more than $1 million in damage to the mansion. Carbo says repair work is being covered by insurance and FEMA money.

Edwards has said it was the first time the mansion had ever flooded, and he's said it took the worst damage of all state buildings in the parishes ravaged by the storm.
