NEW ORLEANS -  Governor-Elect John Bel Edwards announced that State Senator Ben Nevers will serve as his Chief of Staff in the Office of the Governor. Sen. Nevers will also oversee the transition.

"I have known Ben Nevers for years, and he has been great to work with in the legislature," said Edwards. "I'm proud to have him leading this effort to make our government more responsive to the needs of the people and deliver on the commitments that I made in this campaign."

Gov.-Elect Edwards also announced the co-chairs of his transition team. They are:

Laura Leach, Lake Charles
Mayor Jamie Mayo, Monroe
Sheriff Newel Normand, Metairie/Kenner
Sen. Sharon Weston Broome, Baton Rouge
Taylor Townsend, Natchitoches
Richard Lipsey, Baton Rouge

"There are only 47 working days between now and January 11th. This team will help me ensure that we are ready to get to work for all Louisianans from day one," said Edwards.

Additional announcements will be made at a later date. In the coming days, a Web site will be announced as a source of information and communication regarding the transition.
