Fined for Not Using a Fuel…that Does Not Exist
The New York Times did a recent story on how fuel providers have been fined around $6.8 million in 2011 for not using a certain type of biofuel in their gasoline and diesel fuel. Sources say that fines will be even bigger this year as the requirements to produce fuel with even more of this special biofuel are put in place.
You would think that this would mean that fuel makers are simply ignoring the rules, but there is one small problem. This biofuel that they were supposed to use millions of gallons of does not exist outside of selected laboratories and workshops.
What do you think about this requirement from the EPA? Are they simply trying to make our environment cleaner or are they going too far?
