EUNICE, La. (AP) — Police in Eunice say Fire Chief Michael Arnold surrendered Thursday on a warrant charging him with slapping a volunteer firefighter.

Eunice Police Lt. Richard Daigle tells KATC-TV Arnold was released from the city jail on his own signature after being booked on one count of simple battery.

It was not immediately clear whether Arnold has an attorney.

Eunice Mayor Rusty Moody declined to comment.

Police say the incident happened about a month ago.
