Former UL Football Player Simeon Thomas Suspended By NFL

Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football standout Simeon Thomas is in trouble with the NFL.

A cornerback, Thomas, who played in three games for Louisiana in 2013, before becoming a fixture in the secondary in both 2016 and 2017, and is currently a member of the Washington Redskins, was suspended on Tuesday, for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.

Thomas is suspended without pay for four games, meaning he will miss the remainder of the regular season.

He'll also be suspended one game at the start of the 2020 season, provided he makes the Redskins or any other NFL roster.

Thomas also had issues at UL.

In April 2017, he was one of 13 Louisiana players arrested for stealing items from the dorm room of a former teammate who was in jail. The charges were later reduced to misdemeanors.

A native of Miami, Florida, Thomas was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 6th-round of the 2018 NFL Draft, before released prior to the season.

The 6-foot-3, 197-pound Thomas spent time on the practice squads of the Browns and Seahawks, before being signed by the Redskins to their 53-man roster on September 10 of this year.

The 26-year old Thomas appeared in 12 games for the Redskins this season, compiling 8 tackles.

A native of Miami, Thomas compiled 42 total tackles, including three tackles for loss, and 12 passes defended in his senior for Louisiana.

Over his collegiate career at UL, Thomas finished 90 total tackles, including three for a loss, to go along with two interceptions and one forced fumble.

Thomas was one of two for Ragin' Cajuns currently on NFL active rosters.

His former teammate Tracy Walker is the starting free safety for the Detroit Lions.

Louisiana alum Elijah McGuire, who was on the New York Jets the previous two seasons, is currently a member of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.
