This week the pond at Girard Park was stocked with 200 pounds of adult channel catfish. The pond has been stocked on seven other occasions by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery in Arkansas. As of now 2,200 pounds of adult rainbow trout and channel catfish have been stocked in the pond.

According to Greg Gautreaux, LCG Parks Maintenance Manager,

When the pond was first stocked in the fall with rainbow trout, people seemed surprised. Since then, we've seen more and more people fishing around the pond. It's nice that people can get out and fish so conveniently, even people without boats.

City-Parish President Joey Durel said,

Take advantage of this opportunity to visit Girard Park and it's pond and go fishing with family and friends. It's a free and convenient way to enjoy this beautiful public asset.
