Gov. John Bel Edwards has appointed Charles W. DeWitt Jr. to the Public Service Commission Fourth District seat to fill the vacancy left by former PSC Chairman Clyde Holloway who died last weekend.

Dewitt, is a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from Alexandria.  He served in the House from 1980 to 2008, including four years as Speaker of the House (2000-2004) under former Gov. Mike Foster. Prior to serving in the legislature, he served on the Rapides Parish Police Jury.

The appointment runs from Oct. 24, 2016 to Dec. 31, 2016. An election for this seat was already scheduled for Nov. 8.

The Fourth District of the PSC includes Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, LaSalle, Rapides, Sabine, St. Landry, Vermilion and Vernon Parishes.
