Governor Bobby Jindal declares a state of emergency as a tropical disturbance in the Gulf moves toward the state. The emergency declaration follows a statement from Jindal earlier today in which he said his office was on high alert and watching the disturbance closely.

Forecasters predict the tropical wave will form into a named tropical system in the next 48 hours, though it is unlikely it will develop into a hurricane. They say the storm will move slowly across the state, dumping 12-15 inches of rain on the coastal parishes. Flash flood watches are in place for the next 72 hours across southeastern portions of the state.
