There will be a widening project of Interstate Ten to six lanes from four that will begin with work on the westbound side of I-10 tonight.

Starting tonight at 8 o'clock, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will be closing the westbound shoulder of the road along with the outside lane from Breaux Bridge through the Interstate 49 exit.

DOTD Spokeswoman Deidre Druilhet told KPEL previously that the FASTLANE project when finished, will create three lanes of traffic on both sides of the interstate between Interstate 49 and Breaux Bridge at Exit 109.

This phase of the project will start tonight, and the work will last through May 12.

The work will start at 8 o'clock each night and wrap up the following morning

The whole project, widening I-10 to three lanes on each side between I-49 and the Atchafalya Basin, is expected to completed by the Fall of 2019.

James Construction has been awarded the contract.
