In All Honesty, How Much Money Would Change Your Life?
A recent survey revealed a much lower number than you're probably thinking.
Let's pretend for a moment that someone approached you on the street and said they wanted to change your life by gifting you as much money as you want. They pulled out there checkbook and said, "name your price." It would be hard not to be greedy in this situation, right? I mean, it's free money.
What would your number be?
You're mind is probably skipping down the yellow-brick road that is somewhere in the seven figures. Now. What if I told you that you don't need that much money to change your life? I'll wait until you're done laughing in my face.
Recently a survey revealed that Americans need less money than that to have their lives changed. Much less. In fact, the average amount of life-changing money hovers around $19,800.
Yep, less than $20,000.
Of course, 20 grand is nothing to scoff at. That money could pay down debt, get you out of debt, pay some bills, serve as a down payment for a car, pay for college courses... the list goes on and on. Even just tossing that money in a savings account can change your life and take some pressure off of you.
The survey also revealed that Americans would spend that money wisely. In fact, they would use it for many of the reason listed above. 51 percent of respondents said they would put that cash into a savings account, while 31 percent would pay off credit card debt, 30 percent would start their own business, and 27 percent would stick that money in a retirement fund.
Suddenly, our vision of millions seems a tad over the top.
So I pose the question to you. A rich person on the street wants to change your life by writing you a check. How much money do you ask for?
