In Case You Didn’t Know: The Friday After Thanksgiving Is A Legal Holiday In Louisiana
I had a friend say she was 'taking off' the day after Thanksgiving, and I told her not to bother.
When she gave me a puzzled look I informed her that the Friday after Thanksgiving was Acadian Day in Louisiana—a state holiday.
I went on to explain to her that Acadian Day is meant to commemorate the arrival of the Acadians to the area from the French colony of Acadia (you can check out the proclamation here)
As I explained even more people around us at the office looked confused. I couldn't believe that so many people didn't know it was a legal holiday. So before you use precious Personal Time Off, be sure you check with your employer to see if they recognize this official day of rest.
Happy Thanksgiving (and Acadian Day!)
