At Monday's press conference from the Lafayette Mayor-President's Office, the question was asked about whether or not any businesses have been notified that they are non-compliant with the current business standards in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are now updated standards that businesses that are allowed to open must follow, and many people have been wondering what will happen to their business if they don't follow the rules.

Lafayette Chief Communications Officer Jamie Angelle says in a press release that there were two incidents that were responded to by the Lafayette Fire Department.

One business, Red Nails, was actually told they had to cease and desist as the state of Louisiana has not yet allowed nail salons, hairdressers, or spas to open up yet. Inspector Romein reported that is was clear the business was in violation of the guidelines.

The other situation involved Hobby Lobby. According to the fire department, they were not complying with the requirements of social distancing which mandates that all customers must be six feet away from one another.

The manager of Hobby Lobby agreed with the request of Inspector Sinegal of the Lafayette Fire Department to make sure that when people are checking out, that the floor has markings to show that people need to stay six feet away from each other.

The Louisiana Fire Marshall's Office gives information about how to open your business safely.

One Acadiana, the local chamber of commerce for the region, offers great advice on their website.

The violations that were cited at the two locations were for the time frame of Sunday, April 26 through Monday, May 4.
