Injured Cruise Ship Passenger Airlifted to Louisiana Hospital
A cruise ship passenger was airlifted from a Carnival cruise ship early yesterday morning following a fall while onboard the vessel. The United States Coast Guard reported they received a call for medical assistance from the Carnival Valor shortly after 1 in the morning on Tuesday.
Video from the Coast Guard helicopter shows the man being evacuated from the ship. The man, who has yet to be identified, reportedly fell some 15 feet onto the deck of the ship below. The ship's medical personnel then diagnosed that his injuries were too severe to be treated at sea. At last report, the injured passenger, a 23 year old male, was reported to be in critical condition at a New Orleans area hospital.
The ship, the Carnival Valor, set sail from New Orleans on a five-day cruise Monday to Cancun and Cozumel. The ship's itinerary was not affected by the rescue at sea. The Valor is scheduled to return to New Orleans later this week.
