Louisiana Could See Another Strong Cold Front by Mid-March
(KTDY) - Don't put away the jackets and gumbo pots just yet, as another strong cold front could impact the southern region of the country.
It appears that winter doesn't want to leave us, as we may feel cooler air once again as the trees and flowers begin to bloom. Yes, temperatures could be dropping low enough that you and the kids may need your jackets in the days ahead.
According to Meteorologist Payton Malone, who posted the extended forecast on social media, a cold front may push into Louisiana by March 17-19. And for those who've lived here long enough, you know that it's not uncommon for one more strong cold front to sweep through before we hide Easter eggs in the yard.
How cold will it get? Well, according to Malone's social media post, some along the Gulf Coast may feel temperatures back in the 30s on some mornings, which would call for at least one more gumbo this season.
Like all long-range forecasts, we remind you that things can change, but you may want to leave the jackets out and perhaps even hold off on planting some of the tender vegetation in flower beds and gardens.
Just recently, we shared a link from the LSU Department of Agriculture suggesting that you wait to plant in your flower beds and gardens until after mid-March, which, if this cold front comes through by March 17th, would be accurate.
So while the AC units may already be running in your home and office, you may have to resort to the heater one more time in the days ahead. We'll continue to follow this weather forecast and provide more information here and in the app as we get closer to mid-March.
Let me note here that while we may be talking about one last strong cold front pushing further southward in the days ahead, we willl have some Spring-like weather days before the front arrives, and we will have some GORGEOUS weather this weekend for Patty in Parc.
And for those who despise cold weather, let us have one more cold front, and then the rest is yours. Remember, the more cool fronts we get as summer approaches, the better it is to keep the Gulf waters cool as Hurricane Season approaches.
When Does Hurricane Season Begin
The 2026 Hurricane Season officially begins on Monday, June 1, and goes through the month of November.
