(Eunice, Louisiana) - South Louisiana is the home of so many historic dance clubs, and one of the more popular ones is the Purple Peacock in Eunice.

For generations, many people have visited this historic club off Hwy 190 in Eunice, and for years, I have been looking for a photo from inside the club. Let it be known that I worked as a DJ in this club for several years in the late 1990s, but back then, we did take photos while out; we just had fun.

As a matter of fact, I even asked the previous owner of the Purple Peacock for photos inside the club. He echoed what I just said above: people in the 80s and 90s rarely brought cameras; those who went out went out to dance and have fun, not to document every move.

So yes, it's been a challenge to find a single photo of the dance floor in the historic club, until now. Nichollas Bondick recently posted a picture from inside "The Bird," which locals called the club in Eunice, and he's been kind enough to let me use it here.

As you can see, the dance floor inside the Purple Peacock was sunken and surrounded by a vast stage and seating. This allowed for a great dancing experience and excellent concert viewing, and I am told they had some legendary performers on stage at the Purple Peacock.

A lighting truss with several pin spots illuminated the dance floor, along with a giant mirror ball, and if you visited this dance floor in the 90s, you know that the Purple Peacock had one of the most powerful fog machines in the state. I recall several occasions when the fog machine got "stuck," and you couldn't see the other side of the club.

So, let's take a trip down memory lane and peek inside the legendary building we called "The Purple Peacock." I can still see people in this club enjoying the "Beer Bust" on Thursday nights — what a time — and how much dancing was done on this floor through the generations?

For those wondering, yes, the building is still standing in Eunice, and each time I drive past it, the memories from inside this building flood my memory.. There's yet to be a place quite like this.
