Louisiana Lawyer Disbarred and Banned from Walmart After Theft

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Louisiana Supreme Court has disbarred an Acadiana lawyer and the ruling includes an unusual caveat: he's also banned from Walmart.

Samuel Robert Aucoin, identified online as a Lafayette family law attorney and listed by the state bar as practicing in Patterson, lost his law license over a theft that happened during his very first day on the job at Walmart.

The Walmart Theft That Started It All

According to the court's ruling, Aucoin stole nearly $400 in food and drinks the Walmart in Franklin, Louisiana, in December 2023. He was caught after just one day of employment there.

He was later convicted of theft. The court's ruling states he received a 30-day suspended jail sentence, one year of probation, a $100 fine, and court costs. He's also barred from setting foot in a Walmart.

When the state's attorney disciplinary office filed formal charges against him, Aucoin didn't respond.

The court said his conviction involved an intentional act that "caused harm to Walmart and the legal profession."

A Long History of Disciplinary Action

This isn't Aucoin's first run-in with the disciplinary system. In 2020, he was placed on interim suspension after being accused of altering a legal education completion certificate and lying about it during a hearing. He never sought reinstatement.

Then in 2024, he was suspended again, this time for three years, for neglecting client matters, failing to communicate with clients, not refunding an unearned fee, disobeying a tribunal's orders, engaging in criminal and dishonest conduct, and refusing to cooperate with investigators.
