(KMDL-FM) Many Louisiana residents found their slumber interrupted more than a few times by Emergency Alert Messages sent through local media or through their telephones this morning. A strong line of showers and storms has been rumbling across Louisiana since late yesterday, and it looks as if the storm threat will stay active until at least midday today.

The catalyst for all the inclement weather is a strong cold front. That frontal system is very well defined by the radar picture you see above. Granted, the line of storms is ahead of the front and not the frontal system itself, but it gives you an idea of who has already seen storms and who will get them later.

The most significant storm threat at the time of this report is a Tornado Watch. That covers a portion of Central Louisiana. The watch had included more of the state earlier in the evening, but the storm threat has moved east of Louisiana's I-20 communities already.

That Tornado Watch will remain in effect until 3 this morning. It does not look as though conditions will require it to be extended, but Mother Nature might reverse her current trend of weakening storms and refire some of the bigger thunderstorms, especially as we approach sunrise.

After a spate of strong storms with damaging winds in the early morning hours, Shreveport and Bossier City are waking up to much calmer conditions. Such should be the case as the day wears on across the I-10 corridor, too. We might experience some lingering showers for the morning commute, but by the afternoon hours, expect sunshine to return and temperatures to feel a bit cooler.

What Is The Weather Forecast for Thanksgiving Day in Louisiana?

The outlook for Thanksgiving Day across South Louisiana calls for sunny skies and seasonable temperatures. By seasonable, you should expect an afternoon high near 63 degrees on Thursday. Early risers seeking Black Friday deals should find the weather cool enough to put you in the Christmas spirit, but not so cold that you're complaining about it.
