Tulane University and Tulane football have been a part of the Louisiana and New Orleans landscape since the middle 1800s. The university has been an institution of higher learning since 1834. The school began intercollegiate football play in 1893 when beat another school from Louisiana, LSU in that first game.

As college football programs go Tulane has been a rather exciting roller coaster to watch. Notice how I didn't say the program was the kind of roller coaster you wanted to ride. I think it's safe to say that Tulane has had its ups and downs. But the rises have been fast and falls just as quick for the football program over the past few years.

Let's face it the Green Wave have had their share of great coaches. They've had Mack Brown who won a National Championship at Texas, There was Tommy Bowden who led the Greenies to an undefeated season. And now, the program is guided by Willie Fritz. Fritz came over from Georgia State in 2018.

As far as this season goes, Tulane is on a pretty good roll. They've won four out of five knocking off South Alabama and Southern Miss of the Sunbelt. They've also defeated Nicholls State and Alabama Birmingham. The only loss the Green Wave has had this year was at the hands of #16 Ole Miss in the second game of the season.

So, why are so many college football fans smirking or even laughing out loud at Tulane this morning? Well, it has to do with something fans could purchase at the concession stand. No, it's not an anatomically correct hot dog or even gumbo with tomatoes it's a drink cup.

Okay, it's technically a margarita cup from Baton Rouge-based Superior Grill. That restaurant is known for its margaritas and they sell them at Tulane home football games. So, what's the problem with the cup? Take a look for yourself and you tell me.

Oops, wrong school or at least the wrong stadium for that particular cup. Do we think this was a malicious act on the part of some LSU supporters to infiltrate the good vibes of Tulane football? Nah, probably not. It's probably a matter of Superior Grill sending the cups without even thinking that they promoted one of Tulane's most bitter in-state rivals.

We have not heard whether or not the concessionaires at Yulman Stadium will have new cups by the time the next home game rolls around on October 21st against the University of North Texas but we're going out on a limb to say that they will. And if Tulane keeps winning on the football field nobody is going to care what schedule is on the side of their drink cups either.

Meanwhile, in Baton Rouge.

Besides, the way LSU has been playing here lately they may need all those margarita cups for Tiger fans in Tiger Stadium to drown their sorrows.
