Saints Rookie Christen Miller Goes Viral For Grocery Store Good Deed

Sometimes you learn more about a football player in a grocery store checkout line than you ever could from a stat sheet.

New Orleans Saints rookie defensive tackle Christen Miller is getting plenty of attention across Louisiana after a Metairie woman shared the story of an unexpected encounter with him at Rouses.

The best part? She says she had absolutely no idea who he was.

A Bag Of Shrimp Started The Whole Thing

Leslie Pedigo shared the encounter on Facebook, explaining that she was already checking out when a "very large gentleman" walked up behind her carrying just one bag of fresh shrimp.

With her groceries already covering the conveyor belt, Pedigo offered to let the man go ahead of her since he only had one item.

Instead, he put his shrimp next to her groceries and asked the cashier to ring everything up together.

Pedigo initially protested, telling the cashier the stranger did not need to pay for her groceries.

That's when Miller explained why he wanted to do it.

"My Momma always taught me to do good deeds," Miller told Pedigo, according to her account, adding that he wanted the opportunity to bless her.

Miller paid for the groceries, grabbed his shrimp, wished her well and walked out of the store.

She Had No Idea He Played For The Saints

It wasn't until Miller had left that another shopper asked Pedigo if she knew who had just bought her groceries.

She didn't.

The man informed her that her mystery benefactor was a Saints player.

Pedigo hurried outside, found Miller and introduced herself. That's when she learned his name and confirmed that, yes, the guy who had just quietly picked up her grocery bill was one of the newest members of the New Orleans Saints.

Miller also agreed to take a photo with her.

Pedigo said what stuck with her wasn't his status as a professional athlete. It was that Miller had done the good deed before she had any clue who he was.

"He never sought attention, never expected recognition, never made the moment about himself," she wrote.

Who Is Saints Rookie Christen Miller?

Miller is a 6-foot-3, 321-pound defensive tackle who played college football at Georgia. The Saints selected him with the 42nd overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

He played in 43 games with 24 starts during his Georgia career, recording 64 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He earned Associated Press first-team All-SEC honors following the 2025 season.

The Saints signed Miller to a four-year rookie contract in May.

So far, however, one of his most talked-about plays in Louisiana didn't happen anywhere near a football field.

Saints Respond To Miller's Viral Good Deed

As Pedigo's story began spreading on Facebook, Saints fans filled the comments with praise for the rookie.

Even the New Orleans Saints joined the conversation, responding to Pedigo's post: "Great story - thanks for sharing!"

For Pedigo, the encounter apparently created at least one new member of Miller's personal fan club.

She admitted in her post that football normally isn't exactly her thing. Fantasy novels and dragons are more her speed.

That may change on Saints Sundays this season.

Pedigo said she'll be cheering for Miller, not simply because of what he can do for the Saints' defensive line, but because of what he did when he apparently thought nobody was watching.

For a rookie still preparing for his first NFL season, you really can't be at typ first impression.
