One of the requirements in order to be able to ask voters for a tax this fall is to notify the public.

Council members gathered last night to make the 30 notification that they will likely put a tax proposal on the ballot in November.

For years, council members have warned taxpayers that the tax base in the unincorporated areas is not sufficient to keep up with needed services whether it's for drainage, roads, bridges or the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

While council members did not say what kind of tax would be proposed or an amount, a four member panel of council members has been investigating the situation for months.

Council Chairman Kevin Naquin says he he believes they have made cuts as far as possible without getting rid of services.

A possible tax election, if called, would be on November 6.
