LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- The Lafayette Parish School System has suspended a bus driver who was cited for going around a railway crossing arm while he had a bus full of children.

Lafayette Parish deputies say Daniel Gary had 30 students on his bus when he crossed the railroad track at the intersection of Verot School Road and the Evangeline Thwy.

An oncoming train was about 200 feet away, deputies said, and the lights on the crossing arm were flashing.

Gary met Wednesday with the school system's director of transportation to discuss disciplinary action.
