The Lafayette Transit System will no longer serve the Acadiana Mall after complaints the city buses were causing damage to parts of that private road that circles the mall.

Kevin Blanchard, chief development officer for Lafayette Consolidated Government, said the road in question is owned by Sears, and the retailer has asked the city to stop sending buses down that road. Because that road is private, Blanchard said they can not continue using it without permission.

Buses will continue servicing the Ambassador Caffery Parkway, Johnston Street, and Robley Drive corridors, but those roads are a quarter of a mile from the mall.

LTS used to service the Acadiana Mall with three different routes: route 15, which run the Congress corridor; Route 25, which primarily services Johnston Street, and Route 65.

The new routes go into effect Monday.
