Lafayette Utilities to Suspend Late Payment Fees

Lafayette Consolidated Government has not only heard its constituents, it has listened to them.

According to the Lafayette Consolidated Government's Twitter page, the organization will suspend late payment charges.

With the recent spike in fuel prices and the recent spike in temperatures, this is good news for many in the area who are struggling.

You'll see here several posts from Acadiana residents who are shocked at their bills or are looking for ways to help reduce them.

There has been talk about the fuel surcharges and it only makes sense that if the utility companies' expenses rise, so should the rate we pay for the electricity they provide.

Some believe that the utility companies can just make up prices as they go.

I don't know how the pricing is set, so I don't know how accurate that accusation may be. What I do know is this: many people are complaining about or are shocked when they see their recent utility bills.

Others posted ways that people may be able to work together to get the utility company(s) to lower their rates, or get the government to step in to try to do the same.

So what help can we expect to see?

Well, the Lafayette Consolidated Government is trying to help Lafayette Utility Systems customers when it comes to paying their utility bills.

LCG has announced they are suspending late payment charges for all LUS customers until the end of September.

It might not be much, but forgiving the penalties incurred for being late on their utility bill payment may be enough to help some families get by.
