Louisiana Utility Company Urging Customers to Avoid Strain on Water System
With a Blizzard Warning in place and snow accumulation happening in South Louisiana, a utility company is asking customers not to let their faucets drip and to conserve water in an effort not to put a strain on the system.
According to Lafayette Utility System, letting faucets drip, and overusing water will likely put a strain on the water system, which could lead to a boil advisory for customers. They are asking everyone using the system to conserve water.
Overuse of the system can put a strain on the resources of the system.
LUS is asking customers to refrain from the following:
- Customers are asked not to do any high-water consumption activities.
- Customers are asked to turn off any dripping faucets or any left running overnight.
- Customers are asked to reduce the use of their washing machines.
- Customers are asked to reduce the use of their dishwashers.
In the event that you have a problem with your water, you are asked to report the situation to Lafayette Utilities System by calling 337-291-5700. In addition, if you have an outage of LUS electricity, you are asked to call 337-9200.
Other safety tips that LUS wants residents to keep in mind are as follows:
- Space heaters should be turned off when you leave a room or if you are going to bed.
- Inspect the cord for damage to a space heater, and never use a space heater if the cord is damaged.
- Do not use the oven to heat your home.
- Any flammable items need to be at least 3 feet away from anything you are using to heat your home.
- Make sure you keep your fireplace clean when you are using it on a regular basis.
Conserving water will help to maintain the system adequately to ensure everyone can use the system.
