WASHINGTON – United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today responded to the news that the United Stated Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today approved the first deepwater drilling permit for Nobel Energy. This is the first deepwater drilling permit since the Deepwater Horizon explosion and resulting oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010.

Sen. Landrieu said: “Finally, the administration has acknowledged the public outcry from the Gulf Coast that this moratorium on deepwater drilling has been crippling our economy for far too long. I hope that this permit is the first of many to come and I will continue to use every lever at my disposal to ensure that it is. While one permit is good, it’s long overdue. We must continue to work so that this industry is fully back up and running and we reach a point that a permit being issued is not considered a newsworthy event.”
