BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana lawmaker says changes are coming to his divisive religious objections bill, a key piece of Gov. Bobby Jindal's legislative agenda that has run into sharp criticism.

Rep. Mike Johnson says his bill will be clarified in the hopes of addressing concerns it could lead to discrimination against gays and other minorities.

The Bossier City Republican says: "We are not in favor of discriminating against anyone."

As written, the legislation would ban the state from denying any resident business licenses, benefits or tax deductions because of actions that person takes "in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction" about marriage.

Johnson lashed out Tuesday at critics for launching what he calls a campaign of "fear and intimidation and misinformation."
