There is now a new leader of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.  The new head of the chamber is coming from the Louisiana Department of Economic Development.

Jason El Koubi, assistant secretary of the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, was chosen to be the group's new president and Chief Executive Officer.

The current president and CEO Rob Guidry is retiring this year after 25 years as the head of the group.

El Koubi will start his new post in September.

El Koubi was chosen by the board of directors of the Chamber to be CEO.  They picked him after reviewing 250 applicants from 25 states.

Chamber Board Chair Rob Eddy stated,

“Jason is uniquely qualified to serve as the next President & CEO of our Chamber. Along with his prior Chamber staff experience and background in public policy and economic development, he has the personal attributes, skill sets, knowledge, and enthusiasm that will be required for success in this important leadership role.”

El Koubi, before working for the state of Louisiana, was policy director of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce.

State economic development secretary, Stephen Moret said,

“Jason El Koubi is one of the most impressive people I have worked with in my career. He is very smart, has great integrity and a commitment to excellence, and has a wealth of knowledge about economic development and public policy in Louisiana. He has been a high-impact player on my team for the last eight years at the Baton Rouge Area Chamber and then at LED, and I know he will continue to make major contributions to the state and Acadiana region in this new role.”
