Legendary Cajun, Country Music Artist Passes Away
Legendary Cajun and country music artist Jimmy C. Newman has passed away.
Very few details surrounding his death are known at this time, but friends and family of the artist have been flooding his Facebook page Sunday with words of condolences and respect.
Born on Aug. 27, 1927 in High Point, La., Newman rose to country music stardom in the 1950's after inking a deal with Dot Records, where he would score a hit in 1954 with "Cry, Cry Darling" reaching number four on the country music charts.
Soon after rising as a country music star, Newman integrated some of his Cajun roots into his music, with songs such as "Alligator Man" and "Bayou Talk" each reaching the top 25. "D.J. for a Day," "Artificial Rose," and "Back Pocket Money" would put him in the top 10.
No word yet on funeral arrangements for Newman. He was 86.
