Leonard Fournette Named LSWA Headliner Of The Year

LSU running back Leonard Fournette was a consensus All-American in 2015. He can add LSWA (Louisiana Sports Writers Association) Headliner of the Year to his trophy room as well.

Fournette is busy preparing for his junior season in 2016, but looking back at his 2015 campaign, it's not a surprise he earned Headliner of the Year honor.

The prestigious recognition has been around since 1999. It honors an athlete or team, local in nature, that drew the biggest and best headlines from the year in sports.

Last year, former Tiger Odell Beckham Jr. took home the award after his standout rookie campaign with the New York Giants that landed him on the cover of the famous Madden Video Game from EA Sports.

85 members of the LSWA vote for various athletes and teams. Fournette received the most first place votes with 12, including 85 votes overall. Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis finished second in voting this year with 61 total votes, including 5 first place votes.

Fournette led the NCAA in rushing average at 162.8 yards a game, setting or tying 8 LSU single-season records.

Previous winners of the award include the New Orleans Saints (2005, 2006, 2010), the LSU football team (2003, 2007), the New Orleans Hornets (2002), Drew Brees (2009, 2011), Chris Paul (2008), Nick Saban (2004), Peyton Manning (1999, 2013), Tom Benson (2012), Jim Haslett and Randy Mueller (2000), and golfer David Toms (2001).
