COVINGTON, La. (AP) — Lack of money is causing one Louisiana community to cancel its annual Holiday of Lights celebration held in December.

St. Tammany Parish officials say the event, which would have marked its 18th year, will not happen this year due to a lack of funding.

The celebration would have spanned two weekends and features entertainment by area school groups, kids' rides and a tour of the light display at no charge to the public.

Parish President Pat Brister says the change is part of an overall cost-savings approach in order to achieve a balanced operating budget for 2018. She says the parish is anticipating an $18 million revenue shortfall after two sales tax renewals failed in April.
