Louisiana Evens The Series Against Georgia Southern After An Offensive Explosion
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was looking to even up the series and their conference record against Georgia Southern. They had to be able to get timely hits, have good pitching and good defense and boy did they get that. They were able to have their most complete game all around as they allowed 2 runs on 8 hits and the Cajuns were able to get 11 runs on 15 hits as they defeated Georgia Southern 11-2.
The Cajuns were set down in order in the first 2 innings while the Eagles had runners at the corners with 1 out in both of those innings. The Eagles were able to plate a plate a run after a questionable hit by pitch to get the lead off batter on. That lead off batter would get to 3rd before scoring on a sacrifice bunt to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cajuns would their first 2 hits of the game on back to back singles in the top of the 3rd inning by Luke Coker and Kole McKinnon. The Cajuns were able to get 2 straight runners on again in the 4th as the Cajuns got a hit and a walk but just like the 3rd inning the Cajuns couldn't get any runs across.
That would change for the Cajuns as they would get timely hitting in the top of the 5th as they would get 5 runs on 6 hits in the inning to take the lead. The Cajuns scoring would start when Hunter Kasuls would get an RBI double and Kennon Fontenot would get a 2 RBI single. Marco Ramos would score 2 more with a 2 RBI triple.
Coach Robichaux and the Cajuns had been hoping for more 2 out hits and big offensive innings and they got their wish in the top half of the 5th inning thanks to a lot of 2 out hits. They have out hit teams this season but only a few of those hits have been timely.
The Cajuns continued their hitting onslaught in the top of the 6th as they added 3 more hits and one of which was a 2 RBI triple by Hunter Kasuls. The Cajuns would get their 3rd triple of the game in the top of the 7th thanks to McKinnon who got 2 RBIs on the hit.
The Eagles would be able to stop the bleeding momentarily in the bottom half of the 7th as they cut into the Cajuns lead as the score became 9-2 but the Cajuns continued hitting and running all over the Eagles as the Cajuns added 2 more runs in the top of the 8th. Jack Burk would come out in the bottom of the 8th after a stellar pitching performance. He pitched 7 innings and allowed only 5 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs on 83 pitches. Burk finished the game with 5 strikeouts. Austin Perrin would come in and pitch the final 2 innings of play allowing 3 hits and striking out 2.
The Cajuns will finish off the series tomorrow morning at 10 AM central time to see if they can win the series. Tomorrow's game can be heard on Kpel 96.5 and the Kpel 96.5 app and website. The Cajuns will finish off the road trip at McNeese State March 21st. They will then come home for a 3 game series against Troy next weekend.
