Jerry Jacobs of the Louisiana Marijuana Party joined Ken Romero and Dr. John Sutherlin yesterday on 'Go Acadiana' to discuss their voter registration drive. According to Jacobs,

We need people to go to the Secretary of State's website, there is no cost and the entire process takes 5 minutes. When either registering to vote or re-registering to vote one needs either a Louisiana driver's license or a Louisiana state ID card for a code that is on each. Register as if you were registering for any other party but when you hit 'party affiliation' click 'other' and type in the word 'marijuana'.

Dr. Sutherlin asked Jacobs why as a retired New Orleans businessman was he getting involved in the marijuana issue? Jacobs replied,

My interest are economic and social. I do not believe you can legislate social morality. Second the amount of money we are spending on enforcement is ridiculous.

To expand on the economic aspects of losing the 'war on drugs' Jacobs said,

If you take this money and re-channel it into a couple of good programs creating vocational or technical schools to help the unemployed or uneducated, there's tremendous benefit.
