BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana state parks are offering discounts through the end of the year to first responders and all former and current military members.

Members of those groups from anywhere in the nation can get 15% off rentals of campsites, cabins, lodges, group camps, conference centers and pavilions at Louisiana state parks.

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser announced the discounts in a news release that said the state wanted to show gratitude to members of the military and emergency workers.

"They are the true heroes who continue to selflessly serve our nation and communities to ensure we can celebrate our independence every year," he said.

The agency announced the discounts Wednesday to recognize Independence Day. The first responders' discounts are available for stays of Monday through Thursday nights, and the military discounts are available all week.

Local, state, and federal governmental public safety, fire, law enforcement, and emergency response personnel, can use the discount code BADGE for online reservations.

Active duty military, veterans, retirees, National Guard and reservists can use the discount code MILITARY.

These discounts cannot be coupled with other discounts, and proper identification will be required.
